Shift Summary for DAY shift, 07/03/99

On Shift: Rick Kessler & Earl Swallow

Hours of beam available at all intensities: 6.4
Hours of beam available at nominal intensity: 5.2
Hours of E832 data (special runs not included): 6.4
Hours of special runs (laser scans, muon runs...): 0.0

Accounting of lost time & intensity:

SY energy conservation, Booster power supply problems,
MI regulation problems.

Runs ended this shift: None

Tapes brought to FCC this shift: None

Accesses during shift:
None: we resisted the temptation!

Overview of shift:

Quiet shift with some accelerator down-time.

Description of Shift:

run spill time comment
13802 07:00 Run in progress at start of shift;

70 08:05 CsI channel 1610 has 31% laser RMS -- gone next

Sasha performed DC early/late hit study (Book XX,
p. 121). Conclusion: changing late hits to early
ones does NOT degrade track reconstruction

RK looks at "intrinsic" L1 inefficiency since
V-EAST repair and finds 0.02%. Compare to 0.04%
in 97a and 0.6% when we had V-EAST problem.
Looks good. (Book XX, p. 123)

~10:30 Completed general housekeeping/clean-up in KTeV
control room. A Note: It is probably NOT a good
idea to leave unlabeled circuit boards lying
around where people can easily place/drop various
items on them.

~210 11:04 SwitchYard energy conservation, then
Booster Power supply problems -- NO BEAM.

277 12:42 Beam returns, but intensity is low (~1E12).
Lots of KTEVANA errors when beam returns --
fixed by KFREND.

303 13:19 Beam back to ~2.5E12 with work on MI regulation.

343 14:10 Intensity increases to ~4.2E12 --
shortly after RK call to MCR.

351 14:22 Beam intensity = 4.9E12.

375-7 15:25 DYC-28 in DC4 caused ktevana errors ... took
three kfrends to fix.

Follow up Notes on Previous Shift

Items to Follow up on Next Shift

Need to re-attach KTEV1 when tapes fill up or sufficient down time (~1/2
hour) occurs -- see Book XX, p. 124.
